ABSTRACT: 

Maison Margiela is a reference brand in the fashion industry, based on deconstruction and the beauty of manufacture.

After studying the history and trajectory of the brand, as well as its characteristics, the world of sacred spaces and the sensorial experiences of these places was selected as a conceptual line of work, establishing the following objective:

To design display furniture for the brand by playing with the typolo- gies of traditional sacred furniture, analysing its forms and functions, and together with the feelings analysed from the experiences in sacred spaces, to create a family

of products that manage to trans- mit in a simple and clean way, the sensorial experiences of a sacred space.

The result is a family of products with an exhibition and functional character that, by adapting to the brand's corporate identity, mana- ges to create a spatial and senso- rial experience in a neutral place without identity.

BRAND IDENTITY

DECONSTRUCTION

The Margiela label was recognised as part of the deconstruction fashion movement, understood within the styles of grunge or destroyed fashion.

In a quest to extol the beauty of construction and the hidden processes of the fashion world, Margiela presents garments where seams and linings are displayed, resulting in pieces that are unfinished and deconstructed with a reflective discourse.

Martin Margiela was a designer inspired by the feeling and personalisation of fashion, that is why in the process of searching for ideas, a hyper research of the word "Feeling" will be carried out in order to develop a creative line of work.

CONCLUSIONS:

The hyper-investigation of the word "feeling" has led us down a path of emotion and memory, making us land in the sacred world and finding references to temples and rituals.  

 

The ecclesiastical world and the sacred spaces present a great visual force, in addition to its classical aesthetic characteristic, fits with the spaces that the Maison Margiela selects to exhibit its products.  

 

The aim of the project is to create a spatial experience through the unique use of furniture, which must connect the senses with the sacred spaces.

This piece aims to convey the acoustic experience, an "altar" area, a large, continuous surface where products can be displayed.  

The piece is made up of a marble-finish Corian structure on which rests a curved aluminium top. The metal envelope is connected to the structure by a cylinder, creating a gap between the two pieces where a speaker plays bass sounds inspired in rituals and sacred spaces.

The product consists of a 2 mm thick aluminium sheet curved in 3 points joined to a metal structure covered with Corian in marble finish. 

The lower surface produced by the folded sheet creates a reclining area covered with cushions whose plant fibre fillings are scented with essen- tial oils, thus fulfilling the olfactory ex- perience.

LIGHT

EXPERIENCE

This product transmits the luminous ex- perience of sacred spaces.

The display is formed by two metal hoops placed at different heights, between them, a translucent silk fabric closes the cylinder produced by the perimeter of the hoops, creating an imposing cylinder three metres high, inside which is the garment on display.

The upper part is illuminated by a warm,

soft light, which creates the experience.

THERMAL

EXPERIENCE

Inspired by a baptismal font, this piece conveys the thermal experience.

Formed by a metallic container two metres in diameter, on its profile rests

a staggered structure made from thermoformed PVC on which the pro- ducts are displayed.

The interior of the metallic container, filled with cold water, allows the user to experience a change in temperature and humidity when approaching this piece.

Inspired by a baptismal font, this piece conveys the thermal experience.

UNITY CREATES EMOTION

The ensemble of the pieces creates the perfect blend of experiences, so that the user gets to feel the serenity, cleanliness and emotion of a sacred place.
